In the upcoming weeks, we will be providing you tools to continue CONNECTING with your students and families. We look forward to WORKING TOGETHER with all of you in support of our students.

Virtual Pulse Meters - "1 to Cat"

Pulse Meters are used as tools to strengthen our students social emotional intelligence and promote greater self awareness.

Pulse meters are a tool to use with students that help develop a students own social and emotional vocabulary. This happens by allowing them to choose a color, number, or some other scale that will help them describe their current state of emotions.

These are great tools to check-in, check-up, or check-out with students. Focus on allowing the students to feel safe in sharing their “pulse” when these tools are utilized

When implemented with consistency we can help our students:

  • Identify how they are feeling and track the changes from beginning to end of class

  • Gain greater understanding as to why or what caused them to feel that way

  • Differentiate and express each emotion correctly

  • Self-regulate.

Virtual Tips

  • Start class by having a check-in, if possible, also end with another check-in

  • Don’t forget that not every student wants to share their emotions with the entire class so ensure you have options for them to share privately with just you

  • Always answer as the teacher and don’t leave yourself out because you are important and it’s important students know where you are at as well.

Visit our Pulse Meters page for more examples of meters you can use with your students, or that may even inspire your students to create their own.
